YellowBot.com - Intelligent Yellow Pages

A good friend of mine has launched a new site that I think you might find really interesting. The site is YellowBot.com and it's a cool mixture of City Search, Google Maps, and RealEats. The site is really a geographic based search engine that lets you put what you want (pizza, snowshoes, dog food, etc.) with where you want it (city, zip code). When you do the search it brings up the list of things you want that are nearby. What's even more cool is that users who have actually been to the places in the list can write unbiased reviews about them and give you an idea of what to expect.

The site also has a sense of community in that you can establish a group of friends with whom you can share reviews, and tagged pages. There is also an interface that lets you send messages to other users much like email.

They are currently in Alpha and have just come out of invite only stealth mode so not all the features are working and there might be a few bugs lingering around. They do have a forum that lets you contact the development team directly to let them know if you run into a problem.

My write up doesn't do the site justice, but you should really check it out for yourself and see how cool it is.

Very cool Write Angel. My friend Ask (that's actually his name) will like having you check out the site.

Hey Ask, it looks like your comment didn't stick for some reason. Not sure why.

Odd. Maybe because I was using Safari? Trying to post this one with Firefox..

I think I was just thanking you, Guru-C and Write Angel for trying out the site. :-)

Yellowbot is a scam. It lists people's personal information as "businesses". They just scrape other site's listings or have purchased spam lists or mailing lists. Nothing but a lame attempt to rip people off. They also don't respond to any requests to have personal information removed from the site. Avoid this website.

A followup on my earlier comment. The people at Yellowbot did eventually contact me and have my personal information removed from their site, as well apparently from the business listing they use to populate the site. Although it was a frustrating few days wait, they we're apologetic and accommodating in the end and it seems may make an effort to improve communications with users in the future about any errant listings.

Why is my residential phone number, listed as the yellowbot's contact number????? PAIN IN THE ASS!!!! FIX IT!

RN Johnson 2 years ago

Yellowbot somehow got a hold of an unpublished number and published it as the number for a local non-profit (along with an old , incorrect address). No sign of contact information to get anything corrected. I am not impressed!

Read carefully.

I am a pet sitter and since Yellowbot picked me up...I have been called for everything from the Dog pound, to pet sales to 'do you sell dog food'? So make sure the contact you are calling is actually what they say they are.

Yellowbot is advertising incorrect and unrequested information. I am unable to contact them to correct the problem. Helpful? No! Just a painful problem.

@chapo - Yellowbot can't help but perhaps a shower and a less needy disposition would help ;)
