A High Scool Diploma Can Open Doors

If you do not have your high school diploma and are looking for better job opportunities or are striving to extend your educational goals beyond the high school level, you may want to check into taking a high school equivalency test. Commonly referred to as a GED, the General Education Development test is actually a series of tests designed for people who need to obtain a high school education but who left high school before graduating. Without a high school diploma, it is incredibly difficult to compete for jobs in the marketplace or to gain entrance into a college without the ability to display academic competency. Receiving a GED allows many people to demonstrate that they possess academic skills comparable to the average high school graduate.

A GED Can Be A Stepping Stone To College

Although most colleges will accept a GED as an entrance requirement, students with a GED do not typically possess an SAT or ACT record. Both the SAT and the ACT tests are regionally required standardized tests required for admission into most 4 year colleges in the United States. Should a person want to explore post secondary education, they can easily be admitted into a two year community college and then transfer into almost any four year college without ever having to take the ACT or SAT test.

What You Need To Know Before Taking the GED

You will be tested in five subject areas (science, reading, social studies, math and writing) usually over a period of a few days. As over 60 % of students fail the GED the first time, it is important to be prepared for the GED test.

GED test preparation can be accomplished in a few different ways that should accommodate most people's individual lifestyles. You can take preparation classes in night school in a traditional classroom setting with textbooks, a teacher and homework. You can also take sample or practice tests to determine what you already know and what you may need to relearn or study in the privacy of your own home. Libraries and bookstores have GED test prep books for home study. You can also prepare for the GED via online learning. The internet provides resources to you to study at your own pace and whenever you have time versus having to schedule your work or family life around a classroom setting.

Where To Get Help

While the internet provides a ready resource of sources for high school diploma test preparation, be aware of scams online. Be sure to check into the accreditation and also know that you cannot take the actual high school equivalency test online. If an internet site tells you otherwise, they are scamming you.

Instead, you must take the test at any of the more than 3,500 authorized GED test centers located in larger cities in the United States and Canada. You must usually be at least 16 years old and in some areas of the country, you must be 18 years or older to enter into a GED program. Test sites are usually high school campuses and are administered in controlled environments that control against cheating.

Some online resources offer the option of receiving a high school diploma versus the General Equivalency Diploma or GED. This option is considered preferable by some employers. As indicated by its acronym, a GED may be viewed as a sub par educational course of study as it is truly an equivalency to an actual diploma. Conversely, a high school diploma can be earned online via an accredited school and will be seen by prospective employers as a real high school diploma and not show that you ‘dropped out' of a traditional high school for any number of personal reasons that you'd prefer not to discuss with an employer. Carefully reviewing all your options for your high diploma can be that crucial first step to lay the groundwork for your individualized future job prospects.

Improving your general study habits and learning how to take tests can be a big help. This Site can help you not only get prepared for the GED, but it can also provide you with study and testing tips that will help you to be successful far beyond your high school education.

You can not get the G.E.D online. and it does cost a little. it is not free . apply for the Obama grants for single moms. But, to get the real G.E.D is to contact your local school board in your area.. None of it is the real thing online . visit www.education.gov it will tell yo the same.
